Mary “Jill” Gagnon Smith makes her home in Overland Park, Kansas, with her husband Jeff, celebrating 48 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they’ve been blessed with a beautiful daughter and two precious grandsons who bring endless joy to their lives.
After graduating high school, Jill proudly joined the United States Air Force in 1975, serving in accounting and finance. Her dedication earned her the Meritorious Service Award, and her service took her across Europe and throughout the United States. After 7 ½ years, she chose to pursue her education through the G.I. Bill.
In 1983, Jill attended East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a minor in Mathematics. While at ECU, she was recognized as an Outstanding Young American, received an academic scholarship, and graduated with honors in 1985.
Jill went on to share her love of learning through a 28-year teaching career. She taught preschoolers, guided curious fourth and fifth graders, and inspired middle school students with her passion for math.
Now retired, Jill enjoys filling her days with the things she loves most—playing pickleball, learning watercolor painting, spending time with her grandsons, and making the most of every moment with family and friends. She is also learning Spanish and volunteers as a member of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team, continuing her lifelong commitment to service and community.

Immediately after graduation, I attended Manatee Junior College, now renamed State College of Florida. From there I completed my education of a Bachelor’s Degree through Barry University, Miami, Florida. I was employed with the Manatee County School District for close to twenty-seven years, before retirement on October 31, 2024. I always enjoy spending time with all of my family and friends, especially my three grandchildren who are truly my pride and joy!
My favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5,6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your understanding, in all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will direct your path”. I always find joy in serving the Lord and his people! I love this saying, “the Lord blesses me the most, when he uses me to bless other people”! To God be the Glory for the things he has done!
